Evolution of Smartphones
It has been 12 years since the first iphone was introduced
by the Steve Jobs and from that very
moment people’s perception toward
smartphones totally changed .I often wonder if he was with us today would it
have made a huge difference in what we have in todays smartphones. If we see the current smartphones in the market we can see there
are huge competitions among the biggest companies of all time and some rising
companies from China.
It all started with touch screen smartphones which are so
easy to use. In those early days the size of the screen were about 3.5 inches. Then
screen size mattered a lot, the production of smartphones with larger screen
began to increase. Companies are still in the race to prove themselves that
they have the higher screen to body ratio. These races of the companies to
prove themselves better than the other have given us more and more technology enhancements.
Most recently, smartphone manufacturers presenting a whole new front camera adjustment.
Some are punching the whole in the screen, some are using mechanical motors which
pops up the camera from nowhere, some are making the smartphones again a
sliding phone and some are flipping the cameras front and rear.
At first manufacturing a touch screen smartphone was a very big
deal. When almost every companies had their touch screen in their smartphones new
idea of making the screen to body ratio higher and higher began to hit the
manufacturer’s mind. Now at present day, I can say that the objective of making
the screen to body ratio maximum as much as possible has been achieved with
different attempts such as punching the whole for camera, use of mechanical
motor that pops up the camera, sliding phone etc.
So, one question remains what is next enhancements for
upcoming smartphones?
Is it the folding smartphones that’s going to be in
everyone’s pocket in next 5 years?
Folding smartphones are still in the development phase
however some companies have recently launched their first folding smartphone
ever. They look quite promising but the price tag is way higher than the normal
people can afford. Is it the folding
technology that everybody want right now
or it’s just the manufacturer who want some changes in their present slab
structured phones? Although folding technology is a great achievement in this field , sometime I feel
that it can be a marketing strategy as well because consumers are made so curious that
they wish to have one. We all have been using this slab phone for almost a
decade now and we might have got bored as well. This can be another reason
for both manufacturer and consumer
wishing for new enhancements in the smartphones. But are we both sure that
folding smartphone is going to be that game changer just like touch screen phones crushing the market of
keypad phones. This had even led to fall of some biggest company of all time.
So what is the conclusion then ? Is it the folding
technology that will change everything just like our thoughts toward smartphones changed
completely after we got the transition from keypad to touch screenphones? What about considering these three factors ;present slab designs ,foldable
technology and keypad features, while
manufacturing a next generation smartphones? There are too many questions and
possibilities. Well, let me go a little bit of out of topic here . Sometime
when people are clueless they might conclude everything saying ,time is
powerful, time will decide and time will prove everything. So, I am no
exception here and so the conclusion.
